This album has eleven songs, each song has a “twin”, a short story belongs to Rectoverso the book. Both music and book complete one another. It is a concept that puts Rectoverso in such unique position. A hybrid between music and literature.
As a music production, Rectoverso left a historical mark as the first live recording album in Indonesia using all Indonesian local musicians. Previously, the similar orchestra live recording albums always used foreign musicians, recorded in studios abroad. Rectoverso was supported by 46 Indonesian musicians with two arrangers, Andi Rianto and Ricky Lionardi.
Dee wrote all ten songsherself, and another song in collaboration with Erwin Gutawa. Dee performed two duet numbers with Arina Mocca for Aku Ada (I’m Here) and with Aqi Alexa for Peluk (The Last Embrace). Among ten songs, two were written in English: Grow A Day Older and Back To Heaven’s Light.
Rectoverso had at least three hit singles that made into top radio charts. Based on her performance in Malaikat Juga Tahu, Dee was nominated in AMI Award 2009 for Best Pop Female Singer and Most Favorite Female Singer category.
The movie
Rectoverso is an omnibus of five short filmsmade by five female directors, adapted from five short stories written by Dee Lestari.
The fragment of Malaikat Juga Tahu (An Angel Would Know) was a story revolved around an autistic grown-man Abang (Lukman Sardi) and his mother whom he called Bunda (Dewi Irawan). The conflict started when Abang and his younger brother, Hans (Marcell Domits), fell in love with same woman, Leia (Prisia Nasution).
In the fragment of Cecak Di Dinding (Gecko On The Wall), a passionate encounter happened between Saras (Sophia Latjuba) and Taja (Yama Carlos). Although it was a brief relationship, Taja was head over heel over Saras. But, Saras disappeared when she found out that Taja had real feelings for her. Years after, Taja was heartbroken for the second time when he discovered that Saras was about to marry his best friend, Irwan (Tio Pakusadewo).
In Firasat (Intuition), Senja (Asmirandah) felt troubled with her clairvoyant ability that often invited nightmares, she could only cried it out to her mother (Widyawati). Senja had joined a group called The Intuition Club led by Panca (Dwi Sasono). A charming guy and a clairvoyant himself, Panca tried to console Senja so she could be at ease with her ability. Senja couldn’t tell him what was really troubling her; her love to Panca and an premonition that she would lose him forever.
In the fragment of Curhat Buat Sahabat (A Heartfelt Story For My Bestfriend), the story focused on the platonic relationship between two friends, Amanda (Acha Septriasa) and Reggie (Indra Birowo). While Reggie remained single for a long time, Amanda had uncountable relationships with various types of men. She always ended up with someone who would hurt her, and then pouring her heart out to Reggie, not knowing Reggie was the only man who had ever truly loved her.
The fragment Hanya Isyarat (Merely Signs) began with Al’s (Amanda Soekasah) trip to Bali where sheencountered a group of backpackers: Tano (Fauzi Baadila), Bayu (Rangga Djoned), Dali (Prianggadi Adiyatama), and Raga (Hamish Daud Wylie). Al was attracted to Raga but always tried to keep her distance. One night, they held a competition. Each person had to tell the saddest story, and the winner won a bottle of beer. Al finally had a chance to share about her unrequited love.
